New guidance from jewellery retailer Molly Brown London offers some tips on when it is - and is not - a good idea to step out wearing gold jewellery.

For instance, the brand warns that gold should be removed before entering a swimming pool.

The advice adds that necklaces and bracelets should be stored safely while the wearer enjoys their dip.

Giving jewellery as a gift to bridesmaids is one recommendation made by the retailer, with a special section devoted to this issue.

For brides keen to make sure they choose the correct size of necklace, a comparison chart recommends suitable lengths for girls of different ages.

Gold plays a part in a number of the designs available to choose from on the site, frequently as the eye-catching centrepiece of a real-world item recreated in precious metal.

For instance, a necklace with an acorn pendant features 18-carat gold on the seed's cap.
