Monday, 26th July 2010 (779 views) A gold pendant dating back to the Iron Age has been declared treasure after it was discovered on the Rame Peninsula in Cornwall in 2008.Last week saw a hearing in Truro rule the gold centre-loop amulet to be treasure, as it is believed to date back to the first century AD, the Cornish Guardian reports. It is possible the item - which was found by Craig Budding from Millbrook and is yet to be valued - could be acquired by the Royal Cornwall Museum, according to the publication. "These items are pretty rare," Anna Tyacke, finds liaison officer at the museum, explained. She added that while amulets made from certain other metals tend to be more common, "gold ones are rarely discovered". "I might even suggest this is the first of its kind to be found in Cornwall," the expert remarked. The Treasure Act of 1996 dictates that finds can be declared treasure as long as the object contains at least ten per cent precious metals and is a minimum of 300 years old.
