Wednesday, 4th November 2009 (323 views) A gold brooch that belonged to 19th century author Charlotte Bronte has gone on display in West Yorkshire. The gold and garnet piece can now be seen at the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Keighley alongside a miniature book written by Bronte at the age of 13 and an ivory visiting card case. These items were donated to the museum by Canadian Tony Hart, whose great-grandfather was the nephew of the second wife of Arthur Bell Nicholls - who took Bronte as his first wife. Ann Dinsdale, collections manager at the Bronte Parsonage Museum, said that the donation of such important objects was a rare occurrence. "Some of these items are quite unique within the context of the museum's collection and so to have them return to Haworth after so many years, and all the way from Canada, is very special," she added. As children, the Brontes - Charlotte, Emily, Anne and Branwell - regularly produced stories and other pieces of prose in very tiny handwriting, resulting in the production of miniature books on a variety of topics, preparing them for their later literary careers.
