Gold jewellery is becoming increasingly popular among celebrities and the style-conscious, heralding the beginning of a new gold trend, according to one jeweller.

Sarah Leight of fine jewellery designer brand Lauren Klein notes that an increasing number of famous faces are now turning to gold pieces to accentuate their outfits.

Lauren Klein's own jewellery - especially its gold key necklaces - has been spotted on a number of celebrities in recent times.

"We're in the midst of a new era of gold with celebrities and trendsetters donning gold jewellery," Ms Leight remarked.

Last month, it was reported by National Jeweler that A-list stars such as Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry are increasingly turning to Indian-inspired gold jewellery, partly as a result of the country's growing cultural and economic prominence and the popularity of the hit film Slumdog Millionaire.

Indian jewellery has been focused on the use of gold since ancient times.

"Celebrity watching is very influential [for jewellery trends] and we're now seeing this look on the celebrities," Jonathan Landsberg of New York-based Landsberg Jewelers said.
