Wednesday, 22nd July 2009 (1043 views) A gold necklace acquired through an award scheme for gallery and museum curators has gone on display in Aberdeen. The 18-c gold, enamel and garnet necklace was designed by Jacqueline Ryan, who studied at the Royal College of Art and went on to work with award-winning Italian goldsmith Giovanni Corvaja in Padua, Italy. It was acquired by Kate Gillespie, assistant keeper at Aberdeen Art Gallery, after she won a £75,000 award as part of the Art Fund Collect scheme. The initiative saw participating curators given just one hour to choose a new item for their gallery or museum, with their finds then being assessed by a panel of experts. Jennifer Stewart, lead councillor for culture and sport at Aberdeen City Council, said that the necklace was "simply stunning". "No matter what your taste in art is, everyone will appreciate the skill which has gone into making this wonderful work of art," she commented. Ms Ryan currently operates her own workshop in Todi, Italy.
