Thursday, 16th July 2009 (1655 views) A wedding dress fashioned from 24-c gold by a Dubai designer has been displayed in Italy. The dress was the centrepiece of Rami Al Ali Couture's 2009-10 autumn/winter collection, which went on show at the Cavalieri Hotel in Rome. Described as the designer's "masterpiece", the dress was created by treating pure 24-c gold to turn it into tulle, a lightweight net-style fabric usually made from nylon or silk, which could then be transformed into a full wedding gown. Rami Al Ali founded Rami Al Ali Couture in 2001 and is known for designing collections that blend eastern and European elements. He was born in Syria and kick-started his fashion career with roles at design houses in Dubai and Beirut. Last year, a dress made from filigreed 24-c gold weighing 2kg in total went on display at the CMR Grand mall in Visakhapatnam, India. The garment was thought to be worth in the region of 2.9 million rupees (£36,321).
