Bernadine Design launches new gold jewellery rangeThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Wednesday, 15th July 2009 (1255 views) A new range of gold jewellery featuring complex lattice patterning has been launched by Bernadine Design. The fine jewellery company's Lattice collection was inspired by ancient Chinese window architecture seen in a village near Shanghai and includes 18-c pendants, earrings and rings. Pieces in the range include a gold pendant with diamonds and a pair of gold earrings shaped to look like peonies. "After years of travelling around the world, I was so moved by the stunning, intricate lines of the Chinese windows and couldn't wait to design a collection around them," commented Bernadine Wang, owner of and designer at Bernadine Design, which is based in San Francisco, California. Classical Chinese architecture in the Qin, Han, Tang, Song, Ming and Qing periods was dependent on intricate decorations and designs on doors and windows, as these components of a building were seen as symbolic curtains separating earth and heaven. According to author Ma Weidu, opening these doors and windows were seen as creating a "harmonious" link between the two worlds.
