Wednesday, 15th July 2009 (1379 views) A selection of gold jewellery and Faberge eggs that once belonged to one of Russia's imperial families has gone on display in Monaco.The Moscow: Splendours of the Romanovs exhibition runs until September 13th at the Grimaldi Forum and displays the various treasures of the Romanov dynasty, which ruled Russia between the 17th and early 20th centuries. Among these are Queen Marie of Serbia's diadem, made with gold and various precious stones, as well as a gold Cartier brooch. A selection of gold, jewelled Faberge Easter eggs made for czars Alexander III and Nicholas II until 1917 are also on show. Mikhail Romanov was the first member of the dynasty to rule Russia in 1613, with the family's reign ending in 1917 after the country's World War I troops revolted against Nicholas II. Other notable rulers within the Romanov family included Peter the Great from 1682 until his death in 1725 and Catherine the Great from 1762 to 1796.
