Men 'increasingly wearing engagement rings'The news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Thursday, 9th July 2009 (3222 views) A growing number of men are adopting the unusual practice of wearing an engagement ring, reports suggest.Plain gold bands and gold rings containing precious stones are among the finger adornments that males are increasingly sporting after proposing to their other halves or being proposed to, according to GQ magazine. John Cordova of California jeweller Robbins Brothers told the publication that his store receives between 20 and 25 queries a week from women looking for rings to use when proposing to their male partners. "We've got literally hundreds of possible engagement bands for guys," he commented. UK jeweller H Samuel launched its first engagement ring specifically for men, the Tioro, earlier this year. The tradition of giving a ring topped with a diamond as part of the engagement process is thought to have been started by Archduke Maximilian of Austria in the 15th century, when he presented a gold ring with a diamond to Mary of Burgundy.
