Tuesday, 16th June 2009 (1169 views) A pair of gold watches achieved a high price at auction last week, Antiquorum has revealed. The auction house held a sale in New York, with two Patek Philippe timepieces among the lots on offer to bidders. One of the watches sold for more than $250,000 (£152,000), while the other was bought for over $130,000. Commenting on the results, chairman of Antiquorum Robert Maron stated: "As other markets rebound from the past year's economic decline, the demand for exceptional timepieces continues to steadily increase." The event also featured a watch that had been owned by actor Steve McQueen, the item eventually selling for 20 times its estimate at $234,000. Meanwhile, an 18-c gold watch from Patek Philippe is scheduled to go under the hammer in Boston, Massachusetts today (June 16th). Skinner is hosting the event, with the piece expected to fetch between $10,000 and $15,000. Other items on sale include an 18-c gold antique brooch from Tiffany & Co.
