A gold watch that was owned by former US president Franklin D Roosevelt is set to go to auction in New York.

According to Watch Shop UK, the timepiece was given to him on his 63rd birthday, which also turned out to be his last.

The sale is being hosted by Antiquorum today (June 12th) and the watch is expected to fetch more than $50,000 (£30,500) when it goes under the hammer.

Other lots include a watch that was owned by actor Steve McQueen, which has been predicted to sell for between $10,000 and $20,000.

A gold watch will also feature at the second Esher Hall Antiques and Fine Art Fair in the English county of Surrey later this year.

Made by Omega, the 18-c piece dates from around 1950 and is valued at £3,500.

Sandown Park Racecourse is to host the event from Friday October 9th until Sunday October 11th.
