Wednesday, 10th June 2009 (1248 views) Gold jewellery from South Africa has been on display in China this week, as part of an exhibition aimed at attracting people to the African country.According to Travel Wires, Beijing is playing host to the 'South Africa through the Chinese Lens' event. It is designed to highlight culture and lifestyle and the gold jewellery exhibition is complemented by one featuring arts and crafts by South African artists. A display of photographs taken in the country also features the work of ten prominent Chinese photographers. Tracy Qi of the South African embassy in Beijing was quoted as saying: "For most Chinese people, South Africa is a place filled with miracles and mystery." Visitors are "deeply impressed by its scenic beauty, sense of adventure and breathtaking wildlife", she added. Jeweller Aypearl recently observed that gold remains popular in China, with demand currently growing at a rate of around 15 per cent per year.
