Tuesday, 9th June 2009 (1351 views) Gold jewellery is set to be one of the main features of an extravagant on-screen wedding in India.Television series Chittod Ki Rani Padmini Ka Johur is making the episode, which is about a marriage involving a royal family, DNA India reports. A source explained that the production will see the female lead alone wearing gold pieces worth Rs75 lakh (£97,350), with five gold bangles weighing nearly 180g included. She will also don three neckpieces that weigh a collective 400g. Maker of the serial Nitin Desai explained that the royal setting meant the wedding could not be a low-key affair, adding: "All the jewellery had to be real too as audiences want to see real things today. We thought we would make it a spectacle for them in terms of lavishness and opulence." The South Africa Gold Coin Exchange recently highlighted the popularity of gold in India, finding that demand had risen by 84 per cent in 2008.
