A fisherman in Hawaii has come across a gold watch in an unusual place.

Curt Carish, a resident of Kaua'i, caught a ten-inch nenue fish using a bamboo stick, the Garden Island reports.

Mr Carish had been eating a picnic at Port Allen beach when a friend challenged him to catch one of the fish swimming nearby.

After doing so, he noticed that it had an unusually large stomach but threw it into a cooler alongside some frozen chicken.

Moments later, the cooler was opened and a gold watch was discovered next to the mouth of the fish.

"The funniest thing is that the watch was on time and still ticking," Mr Carish was quoted as saying.

It follows the discovery of a gold ring in the belly of a fish in the UK.

An angler had been fishing off Fort Victoria, near Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, when he came across the item.
