Monday, 18th May 2009 (1084 views) A leading Bulgarian archaeologist has discussed her career and the discovery of ancient Thracian treasure in the country.Speaking to Radio Bulgaria, Daniela Agre stated that one of the highlights of her work has been uncovering the Hellenistic tomb near Sinemorets in south-eastern Bulgaria. "It will not be an overstatement to say that we found inside unparalleled gold jewellery, unique in the world," she explained. A graduate in archeology in Russia, Ms Agre has worked at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Archeological Museum in Sofia for almost 30 years. She added that she believes "hard work brings luck" and it is important not to give up when searching for archaeological treasures. Ms Agre played a central role in the excavation of a 2,400-year-old Thracian tomb near Zlatinitsa in 2005, which held a golden laurel wreath and a gold ring, among other items. Thrace was a region in south-east Europe colonised by the ancient Greeks. It included large areas of what is now southern Bulgaria, as well as parts of modern Greece and Turkey.
