Monday, 20th April 2009 (2873 views) A student from Buckinghamshire New University won the fine jewellery prize in a recent competition run by the V&A Museum to encourage emerging designers.Entries to the Ancestors/V&A Student Jewellery Design Competition 2009 were all inspired by the museum's collections and Nicola Dessant chose to base her designs on the Romanesque architecture of the V&A. She combined the architectural elements with imagery relating to Bacchus the god of wine to produce her elegant and unique Vine gold necklace. Currently in her second year of studying for a BA Hons in jewellery at the Wycombe-based university, Ms Dessant told the Bucks Free Press that she was "delighted and excited" to have been selected for the fine jewellery prize. "The idea of the competition was to be inspired by work in the V&A, and I was inspired by a newly opened jewellery gallery and by the work from the Roman period," she told the newspaper. All the winning designs in the competition will form part of the Inspired! Collection from Ancestors, which is sold internationally. In other news, L'azurde Company has unveiled a flamboyant advertising campaign to promote its fine gold jewellery that features gold masks made in Venice and a masquerade party.
