Wednesday, 15th April 2009 (1368 views) An exhibition that includes gold items from Afghanistan is at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas. The travelling show will remain at the museum until May 17th before moving to New York and golden treasures on display include necklaces, crowns, rings, armbands, earrings and appliques. Entitled Afghanistan: Hidden Treasures from the National Museum, Kabul, the exhibition has been organised by the National Geographic Society and officials in Afghanistan. A visitor the exhibition, Dave Camp, told Voice of America: "I loved it. I have never seen a mix of the Indian and Persian and Greek stuff combined in that way and it was fabulous." Many of the artefacts in the show come from the so-called 'Bactrian Hoard' and were thought to have been stolen or destroyed during 25 years of conflict in Afghanistan, but were rediscovered in August 2003. A Soviet-Afghan team initially found the treasures in 1978 at a site called Tillya Tepe, 220 miles north-west of Kabul and they were protected during years of fighting in the country.
