Mark Vanden Berg has designed a new Family Centric pendant for Centric Designs that is intended to "express the value of a family relationship".

The patented design of the fine art pendant is available in a number of different combinations of gold and is ideal for women of "discerning taste".

West Michigan-based Mark Vanden Berg designed the pendant following a conversation with a friend who had recently become a father for the first time and wanted a piece of jewellery for his wife that reflected their new family.

Each item is handmade and the firm suggests that it would make a "thoughtful gift for the birth of a child, an anniversary, a birthday" and other occasions.

Described by Mark Vanden Berg as "wearable art", the pendant depicts the family unit of father, mother and baby and comprises four separate pieces set with diamonds.

Meanwhile, a gold bracelet created by a British accessories designer was recently presented to US first lady Michelle Obama by Samantha Cameron, the wife of Conservative party leader David Cameron, according to Vogue.
