A gold bracelet created by a British accessories designer has been presented to US first lady Michelle Obama.

According to Vogue, the jewellery item was purchased for Ms Obama by Samantha Cameron, the wife of Conservative party leader David Cameron.

The Laratella bracelet is from the Essentials range by Ms Bohinc, who claims that she had no idea that the bracelet had been purchased as a gift for the first lady until it was given to her by Ms Cameron during a visit to Britain.

"It is one of our signature pieces, inspired by ropes, sailing and all things nautical, and has been copied by everyone from the high street to the high end," she was quoted as saying.

The designer added that it was a "wonderful compliment" and a "great honour" to have the bracelet chosen as a gift for Ms Obama.

Slovenian-born Lara Bohinc has a store in Sloane St, London, which stocks the Laratella bracelet in yellow and rose gold.
