Royal gold watch in Sotheby's spring auctionThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Tuesday, 7th April 2009 (1430 views) A gold watch thought to have been made for King Ludwig II of Bavaria will be one of the highlights at a Sotheby's auction this spring in Geneva. The timepiece will be one of the lots in the forthcoming Evening Sale of Watches on May 10th 2009 and is expected to fetch CHF30,000-50,000 (£17,870-£29,780). Complete with matching chain and fob seal, the watch was made around 1880 and symbolises the Royal Military Order of Saint George. Described by the auction house as "historically important", the gold, enamel and diamond presentation item was probably made for the European king who commissioned the fantasy castle of Neuschwanstein. Sotheby's will hold its spring watch sale at the Beau-Rivage Hotel in Geneva and other key lots include a rare Cartier 'Mystery Clock' and wristwatches by Patek Philippe, Rolex and A Lange & Sohne. Around 170 timepieces will be sold during the auction, including watches dating from the 16th century to the present day. Swiss company Ulysee Nardin recently unveiled a new model as part of its Dual Time collection of watches, Vialuxe reported.
