Monday, 16th February 2009 (1640 views) Local businesses in Pensacola, Florida have been working on gifts to present to the Spanish king and queen during a forthcoming visit.Jeweller Corbet Davis told the Pensacola News Journal that his staff were creating gold necklaces featuring replica Spanish coins that could be worn "during ceremonies or any time". The coins are replicas of those found with the wreck of Spanish galleon the Atocha which sank off the Florida Keys in 1622 and was found in 1985. Mr Davis, who owns Jewelers Trade Shop in the city, was selected by Celebrate Pensacola to produce the official gift to King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia and he is donating it to the non-profit organisation. The Spanish royals are visiting Pensacola to mark the 450th anniversary of the landing of Spanish explorer Don Tristan de Luna and the gold gifts will be approved by the Spanish consulate in Miami before being presented to the king and queen. In other news, gold jewellery found in ancient tombs is on show at the Field Museum in Chicago.
