Friday, 13th February 2009 (1953 views) A collection of gold treasures from ancient Egypt has been placed on display in Turin, Italy.The exhibition at the Scuderie Juvarriane of La Veneria Reale runs between February 7th and May 31st 2009, Ansa News reported. Entitled Egypt: Sunken Treasures, the display includes gold jewellery, coins and other artefacts that were found on the bed of the River Nile by French marine archaeologist Franck Goddio. More than 500 items from the submerged towns of Alexandria, Heracleion and Canopus form the exhibition, which covers 1,500 years between the seventh century BC and the eighth century AD. The show has already toured to Berlin, Paris, Bonn and Madrid and covers major developments in the history of Egypt. Highlights of the exhibition include a wedding ring with an inscription from the New Testament and a number of gold coins. In other news, an ancient Egyptian mummy has been uncovered 30km south of Cairo that is believed to contain a hoard of gold amulets.
