An exhibition and charity sale of fine jewellery is being held this month at the Oberoi Hotel in New Delhi to benefit the Widows of Vrindavan.

The Fine Art of Indian Jewellery event will run from February 12th to 14th 2009 and will be inaugurated by the chief minister of Delhi Sheila Dixit.

Created for Guild For Service, which works with marginalised groups in seven Indian states, the exhibition is designed to showcase Indian gold jewellery.

Chennai-based Resplenda Expressions Private, founded by jewellery designer S Ahalya and Prabodh Jain, is behind the initiative and will showcase collections made of 18-c gold and comprising earrings, bangles, rings and neckpieces.

Ahalya said: "People are my inspiration, so I see no contradiction between my artistic urges and my clients' needs. All my jewellery is designed with a specific person in mind."

Rasvihar of Chennai, a division of Resplenda Expressions Private, showcased a collection of precious jewellery designed by Ahalya during Dubai International Jewellery Week at the Dubai World Trade Centre in November 2008.
