Tuesday, 3rd February 2009 (1689 views) A historic collection of gold rings owned by a private individual is being placed on display in London by Parisian gallery Les Enluminures.The exhibition is taking place at London dealer Wartski in Grafton Street and will feature 35 rings dating from the Roman period to the Renaissance. Crafted between 300 and 1600 AD, the rings are from the private collection of Sandra Hindman, Professor Emerita of Art History at Northwestern University, who owns the Les Enluminures galleries in Paris and Chicago. Highlights from the fully-documented exhibition of rings include a Christian Roman gold marriage ring (circa 500AD) and an 11th century cloisonne-enamelled Byzantine gold ring. The Roman to Renaissance exhibition will run from May 12th to 22nd 2009 and includes marriage, iconographic, gemstone, seal, merchant and stirrup rings. In other news, a gold ring given to Charles Dickens by Alfred Lord Tennyson will be auctioned this month by auctioneer Nigel Ward of Pontrilas, Herefordshire, with a guide price of £25,000-£30,000.
