Monday, 2nd February 2009 (1594 views) An 18-c gold ring has been created by Glasgow store Chisholm Hunter that illustrates a poem by Robert Burns. The ring, inspired by the Scottish bard, is in the shape of a rose and will be sold later this year to raise money for the Scottish Spina Bifida Association (SSBA), the Glasgow Evening Times reports. Crafted in honour of the 1794 poem My Love Is Like A Red, Red Rose by jewellers Harold and Tracey Brown, the bespoke cocktail ring is expected to fetch £5,000 at auction on St Andrew's Day (November 30th). Marking the 250th anniversary of Scottish poet Burns and the 150th anniversary of Chisholm Hunter, the ring was engraved 'one of one' and hallmarked by the Assay Office. It was unveiled during an annual Burns Supper on behalf of the SSBA and bids will be open throughout 2009 as part of Homecoming Scotland year. Meanwhile, a gold ring presented to Charles Dickens by Alfred Lord Tennyson will be auctioned this month with a guide price of £25,000 to £35,000 by auctioneer Nigel Ward of Pontrilas, Herefordshire.
