Monday, 19th January 2009 (1625 views) A gold signet ring belonging to town benefactor Sir John Leman will form part of a new exhibition at Beccles Museum.The museum in Suffolk is undergoing preparatory work before it accepts a collection of valuable items owned by Sir John, the Advertiser24 reported. According to museum chairman John Brodribb, a new display case has been purchased to hold Sir John's gold signet ring and his chain of office. The items are coming from the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and Sir John and his entourage will visit the museum on January 19th. Now housing Beccles Museum, Leman House, in which the exhibition will take place, was given by Sir John in his will to the town in 1631 and was a school at the time. The largest hoard of Iron Age gold coins ever discovered in modern Britain has been uncovered in a field in Suffolk by a treasure hunter using a metal detector.
