Wednesday, 7th January 2009 (1689 views) The Great Falls Symphony has celebrated its 50th anniversary with a traditional ball, a performance by Simply Sinatra and a raffle of gold items.Las Vegas star Steve Lippia performed Sinatra hits during the symphony ball at the Mansfield Convention Centre in Great Falls, Montana. His performance at the Golden Gala on January 3rd 2009 was accompanied by a raffle, with prizes including a gold ring from Big Sky Gold and a yellow 'ice' gold 17-inch necklace from Fox Fine Jewelers. Another highlight of the raffle was a $20 (£13.31) 1904 uncirculated US Liberty Head gold piece from Coins Plus, while those attending the gala were also given the opportunity to purchase one of a series of six golden nuggets specially crafted to mark the symphony's 50th anniversary by Paul Radonich of Crown Jewelers. Carolyn Valacich, executive director of the Great Falls Symphony, told the Great Falls Tribune that the symphony was "looking for something that would mark the 50th anniversary in a special way". In other news, an art jewellery auction at Sotheby's in London on behalf of the NSPCC raised £114,325, with a 22-c gold ring designed by Anish Kapoor attracting a winning bid of £18,750, according to Retail Jeweller.
