A gold watch is part of a new exhibition of objects salvaged from the wreck of the Titanic.

The Merseyside Maritime Museum in Liverpool is playing host to the display of items and the gold wrist watch was presented to the Liverpool and London Steamship Protection and Indemnity Association.

All the items in the new exhibit have been loaned to the museum by the association, which is based in Water Street, Liverpool.

Dr Alan Scarth, curator of the Titanic exhibition, commented: "These objects are very evocative of the most famous shipwreck of all time. The personal items are particularly moving because they represent the terrible human cost of the disaster."

The Titanic sank on April 15th 1912 and now lies 2.5 miles below the surface of the sea, with a number of expeditions carried out to the wreck since it was discovered in 1985.

A gold ring discovered in a shoe box kept by Titanic survivor Lillian Asplund was sold at auction in April 2008 for £3,000 as part of a collection of memorabilia from the ship, according to the BBC.
