Tuesday, 6th January 2009 (2454 views) Jewellers in the United Arab Emirates have reportedly launched a series of promotions and other schemes in order to attract new gold customers.According to Emirates Business, Indian company Sky Jewellery is offering ten kg of gold as an incentive, while others are offering free gold coins or prize draws. Joy Alukkas, chairman of the Indian jewellery chain of the same name, stated that the firm had received a large number of entries to a BMW Series 3 raffle at its outlets. The company, which specialises in gold jewellery, is planning to open a total of 12 new showrooms across the UAE and Gulf region over the coming year. Ibrahim Saleh, co-ordinator general of the Dubai Shopping Festival, has claimed that promotion schemes have "helped boost gold and jewellery sales in Dubai". Gold and jewellery are among Dubai's top exports last year according to new figures from the Dubai Export Development Corporation, Gulf News reported.
