Reddish gold is proving particularly popular with consumers, marking a new trend in the jewellery sector, a report states.

German jewellery and watch association in Pforzheim claims that rose and red-gold are this year's "stars" in jewellery design, according to German news agency DPA.

Reddish now features in a number of collections, as does white gold, with necklaces, bracelets and rings continuing to be favourite Christmas gifts, the company suggests.

Combinations of two colours of gold, such as white and yellow gold or rose and red-gold are also becoming more popular, DPA reports.

The trend in watches this year is for rose-coloured finishes, according to Melanie Dummin of German jewellery chain Christ.

In related news, a new collection from Porsche Design features hand polished 18-c rose gold cufflinks.
