Thursday, 11th December 2008 (2144 views) A collection of gold and enamel Faberge eggs owned by the tsars of Russia is on display in New Delhi.The eggs form part of a new exhibition entitled Faberge - The Priceless Jewellery of the Russian Empire in the Indian capital. Highlights of the display include the lavish gold Coronation Egg, crafted in 1897, which comes with a golden stagecoach as its surprise element. The exhibition of treasures from Imperial Russia runs until January 18th 2009 at the National Museum in New Delhi. Valued at $22 million (£14.7 million), the collection of 196 items, many of which were crafted for Czar Alexander the III and his son Nicholas II of Russia by Carl Faberge, is being displayed in India for the first time as part of the country's Year of Russia. A collection of uniforms and costumes decorated with gold and worn by Russia's tsars has gone on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
