A woman touched by comments made in an interview by the Sultan of Selangor has offered the Malaysian ruler a gold necklace.

Liu Jing Lian, from Kuala Lumpur, was so moved by the statement by the Sultan that Malaysia is for all races that she wants him to accept her prized gold necklace, a birthday gift from her son, Sin Chew Daily reports.

Ms Liu, who is in her 70s, wants to present her necklace in person to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah after he called on all races in Malaysia to work together.

"I know the Sultan does not need the necklace but I want to tell him that what he said is what all Malaysians want to hear from their leaders," she told the newspaper.

The Sultans of Selangor are descended from a Bugis dynasty and Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah became the ninth Sultan of Selangor after the death of his father Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.
