Friday, 5th December 2008 (1741 views) A rose gold engagement ring that once belonged to Hollywood actress Deborah Kerr has fetched more at auction than expected. The ring, from the star's first marriage, was sold by auctioneer Bonhams and was expected to fetch up to £25,000 in the sale. Sold as part of a collection of jewellery owned by the icon on behalf of her family, the ring actually attracted a winning bid of £33,600. Other items in the sale included a mid-19th century gold and turquoise snake-like chain that was once worn by Kerr around her wrist and was purchased for £5,760, double its pre-sale estimate of £2,000-£2,500. The engagement ring dated from around 1945, the year that Scottish-born Kerr married RAF squadron leader Anthony Charles Bartley. Kerr was the star of over 50 films, including From Here to Eternity (1953) with Burt Lancaster, The King and I (1956) with Yul Brynner and An Affair to Remember (1957) with Cary Grant.
