Friday, 5th December 2008 (1761 views) Christie's is preparing to auction gold earrings from ancient Assyria as part of an art and antiquities sale.The auction on December 9th includes a pair of neo-Assyrian earrings dating from the 7th-8th century BC and estimated to fetch $45,000-$65,000 (£31,000-£45,500). Also included in the tenth annual Ancient Jewellery sale is a necklace of twelve Roman ringstones, a Roman gold snake ring, an Etruscan carnelian scarab and gold finger ring and a pair of Greek gold bracelets from the late 4th century-early 5th century BC (estimate $80,000-$120,000). Estimates for items in the sale range from $2,000 to $700,000 and pieces come from the ancient civilisations of Egypt, the Near East, Greece and Rome. More than 120 lots of wearable works of art are featured in the Christie's annual sale this year.
