Around 40kg of gold will be distributed at this year's Grand Kerala Shopping festival, according to organisers.

The state will be divided into three zones for the 45-day event, which commences on December 1st.

Showcasing traditional and modern gold jewellery and ornaments from Kerala, the festival takes place across the state in all its prominent towns, cities and pilgrim centres.

The government-sponsored shopping event runs from December 1st to January 15th 2009 across the 14 districts of Kerala.

Gold prizes, including sovereigns, will be available at the second Grand Kerala Shopping Festival.

The first Kerala Gem and Jewellery Show took place this year, organised by Indian magazine the Art of Jewellery.
