Monday, 10th November 2008 (1761 views) Gold jewellers have attended a summit in the Middle East that celebrates the strong growth in the global jewellery trade in recent years.Organised by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), the two-day event honoured the industry leaders who have raised the profile of gold jewellery around the world. Ahmed bin Sulayem, DMCC executive chairman, said: "These distinguished personalities have led the evolution of the diamond and jewellery markets in China and the Middle East, transforming them into the most promising growth areas." Held at the Atlantis Hotel, Palm Jumeirah, a total of seven industry leaders received lifetime achievement awards at the Middle East-China summit for their contributions to the international jewellery trade. The founder of jewellery firm Damas, the late Mohammed Taher Abdullah, received a posthumous award for his "lifetime excellence and contribution to the jewellery industry" which was received by his three sons. Other industry experts that were honoured with the awards included Vincent Chow, Chow Sang Sang group general manager, Imam Altinbas, Altinbas founder, Robert Mouwad, founder of Mouwad and Jamal Farsi or Farsi Jewellery. With operations in 18 countries around the world, Damas has over 450 stores and offers a range of its own and luxury-branded jewellery and watches.
