Men planning to shop around for gold jewellery for their loved ones this festive season are being advised by a website to find a gift that specifically suits the woman they are buying for.

According to US communications company Frank About Women, jewellery is one of the most popular gifts requested by women for holidays and special occasions.

Website GuysGuideToJewelry.com has been created to help men buying jewellery and has been created by an "opinionated, knowledgeable, fashionable" team of women from thepassionatecollector.com.

Susan Shieldkret, owner of the new website, commented: "Our goal is to demystify the process and to make jewellery gift buying a more relaxed, positive experience for men."

Men should select a piece of gold jewellery that "reflects the personality and style of the woman you're shopping for", according to Ms Shieldkret.

A New York-based Irish-American company recently launched a new online retail site selling Irish jewellery featuring both contemporary and traditional Celtic designs.
