The Festival of Gold 2008 kicked off this week in New Delhi.

In the 22nd edition of the event, 70,000 items made of the precious metal from a wide range of designers and manufacturers will be on show for enthusiasts.

It runs until October 22nd at the Ashoka Hotel in the Indian capital and the launch was attended by Bollywood actress Kajol Devgan.

She said that everybody loves gold because it is "one of those beautiful things".

"I think gold is always very special. Whenever you think of gold on any occasion, you feel special. It's something that has religious meaning," she remarked.

The occasion has been organised by MMTC, the largest trading body in India.

As the country's largest bullion dealer, it has a specialised precious metals division that handles domestic retail trade as well as imports and exports of gold.
