Monday, 15th September 2008 (2227 views) A Dubai gold trade association has been endorsed by an influential sheikh, it has been reported.Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum has become the new patron for the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group (DGJG), an independent organisation that represents the jewellery merchants of the city, according to the Dubai City Guide. Managing director of the DGJG Tawhid Abdullah commented: "Over the years we have worked very closely with the government so being granted this kind patronage is a natural step." He added that it has always been the group's intention to support local initiatives and raise the area's profile as the hub of the gold trade. Mr Saeed Al-Maktoum is also president of the Department for Civil Aviation and chairman of the Emirates group. The DGJG was originally set up in 1996 with around 250 members in order to support the Dubai Shopping Festival. It grew over time and now has more than 700 associates.
