Thursday, 11th September 2008 (2191 views) People are being encouraged to enter a competition in Liverpool to design a piece of jewellery to commemorate the city's European Capital of Culture year.Non-professional designers or artists have been invited to create trophy or item of jewellery to mark the celebrations, according to the Liverpool Echo. Up to £10,000 will be given to the successful candidate to produce the preferred piece. The deadline for the contest, which is a joint initiative by gold merchants Boodles and Open Culture, has been extended to October 17th. "We felt it was vital everyone had the opportunity to submit their designs and necessary to extend the deadline to enable students returning from their summer break to get involved," Boodles managing director Nicholas Wainwright commented. Several events have taken place in the city over the year as part of the celebrations. A festival of science is currently underway, where debates, family days and excursions can be experienced by the public.
