Friday, 18th July 2008 (2376 views) A host of new jewellery designers are set to premiere their collections at the JA New York Summer Show as part of the 31st Annual New Designer Gallery, according to the National Jeweler Network.In the past, the New Designer Gallery has debuted and helped start the careers of Steven Kretchmer, Penny Preville, Tom Kruskal and David Yurman. According to the designers website, Steven Kretchmer is known as the Jimi Hendrix of the jewellery world. Featured this year will be designer Alexandra Essex's Exquisite Jewels collection. The designs in this range are based entirely on 14-karat to 22-karat solid gold. Daphna Simon will also showcase her Untamed Jewellery collection. Ms Simon gained an apprenticeship under an Israeli goldsmith and now produces 18-karat gold pieces. Of the new designers premiering their collection, one will be awarded the Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year Award. The National Jeweler Network said: "The award is named after Mort Abelson, founder of the New Designer Gallery and the man to credit for bringing "designer jewelry" to the forefront of the industry."
