Inspiration comes from everywhere, says jewellery designerThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Friday, 11th July 2008 (2187 views) Turkish jewellery designer Gurhan Orhan has talked about his life and work in an interview with ViaLuxe.Since he was 40, Mr Orhan has worked with 24-carat gold to make individual pieces of jewellery. He first found demand in Turkey before an American market was established. The handmade pieces of the Gurhan line combine contemporary design with jewellery from ancient Anatolia and Byzantium, but Mr Orhan said he finds inspiration "everywhere". "Inspiration comes from everywhere, mostly comes from women herself. But the most important thing is not to have inspiration from other jewellery. That's the number one thing," he explained. "Reincarnated" pieces are a major theme in the designer's work, with his recent collection featuring Egyptian scarabs. His work has a signature hammered finish, an ancient goldsmiths' technique to make jewellery more durable. Around 120 people in Turkey and the USA are employed by the Gurhan jewellery name.
