A speciality jewellery store is set to open in Ludhiana, north India. The store is the third to be launched by Reliance Retail, according to the Economic Times.

The gold jewellery range includes Kundan from Rajasthan, Rajkot Antique and Jadau from Amritsar.

Bijou Kurien, president and chief executive lifestyle, said: "Reliance Jewels is another milestone in our effort [for] bringing a unique shopping experience with assured purity of gold ... in our store we plan to give our consumers an unparalleled range of jewellery."

The store is 5,000 sq ft and will bring together over 20,000 designs collected from across India. One floor has been dedicated for bridal collections.

Reuters has reported that the demand for gold in India in May was "weak" as there have not been any festivals to celebrate. Ashwin Chokso, partner at Jamnadas M Choksi jewellers, said that people were being "cautious" when it came to buying gold jewellery.
