The Associated Press has reported a $2 million (£1 million) jewellery robbery in the US.

Thieves broke into the EA Dion Inc jewellery company in Massachusetts and stole a safe that weighed around 1,000 pounds.

In the safe, among gems and other valuables, were several white gold Super Bowl rings that had been made for American football team, the New York Giants.

The rings had the "NY" logo marked out in diamonds and were designed by Tiffany and Co. It is estimated that the rings cost $25,000 each.

Team spokesman Pat Hanlon said that the stolen rings had been made for staff members in commemoration of the Giants' win over the New England Patriots, according to the Associated Press.

Players for the team and the coach had already received their rings. According to international diamond exchange website, Index, the rings are "designed to be big, seen ten tables away at a restaurant".
