Solid gold supermodel statute for British MuseumThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Wednesday, 4th June 2008 (2816 views) A solid gold sculpture of supermodel Kate Moss in a yoga position is set to be the centrepiece of a British Museum exhibition later this year.Marc Quinn's piece, Siren, cost some £1.5 million to make and is based on the white-painted bronze sculpture called Sphinx that he made of Moss in 2006. Mr Quinn has described the supermodel as "a contemporary version of the sphinx". When the initial version of the sculpture was unveiled in 2006, he explained that while the body of Sphinx was Moss's, a model was used to create the contorted yoga position. He told the Guardian about the sculpture: "It's a portrait of an image - and the way that image is sculpted and twisted by our collective desire." "She is a mirror of ourselves, a knotted Venus of our age," he concluded. At the end of the exhibition, the sculpture will be auctioned off to raise funds for charity.
