Tuesday, 8th April 2008 (2615 views) A crown made using engraved and embossed gold leaf is among the items going on display in a new exhibition of Greek artefacts at the Canadian Museum of Civilisation, according to reports.Canadian news site Huliq.com says the expo, entitled The Greeks, will look at the "significant imprint" Greece's ancient empire left on western culture and civilisation. It features over 180 different items, including the gold leaf crown. The crown's design incorporates oak leaves and flowers in gold, and it dates from the Hellenistic age of the fourth and fifth century BC. Other pieces in the show include a diverse range textiles, paintings, religious icons, lamps and toys spanning 8,000 years of civilisation, the site says. They cover many aspects of life in ancient Greece, from agriculture to politics, religion and art. The Canadian Museum of Civilisation's president and chief executive Dr Victor Rabinovitch said he was delighted to bring "diverse and exquisite" artefacts of The Greeks to Canada. "Ancient Greek civilization has had an enormous influence on the social, cultural and political life of much of the world," he said. The Canadian Museum of Civilisation is located in Gatineau, Quebec, on the opposite riverbank to country's capital city Ottawa.
