Thursday, 3rd April 2008 (2367 views) Police in British county of Kent are hoping that a new "exhibition" of stolen jewellery will help to reunite some of the gold pieces with their rightful owners, according to reports.Kentnews.co.uk reports that over 100 items recovered from pawn shops will be included in the display at Sittingbourne police station. They include gold earrings, rings and necklaces, the site says. Members of the public who have had items of jewellery stolen between December 2007 and February 2008 are invited to attend the exhibition, which starts at 9am on April 5th. Kent Police Detective Constable Mark Whewell-Jones told the site: "We are keen for people to come forward with receipts or photographic evidence that proves ownership of the items on display." Domestic burglaries in England and Wales - which often involve the theft of jewellery - stood at 733,000 in 2005-06, according to figures from the British Crime Survey. This is down from a peak 1993 of approximately 180,000.
