Wednesday, 2nd April 2008 (3732 views) Sales at the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) saw a "record rise" this year, with gold jewellery performing particularly well, according to reports.News website Emirates Business says overall, Dubai's retail sector experienced a 12 per cent rise in sales during the month-long DSF event, while other sectors including aviation, travel and financial services also saw "exceptional" revenues. In the jewellery sector, sales of gold pieces totalled a "monumental" 700 United Arab Emirates dirhams (£961 million) for the month. The site says this reflects enduring consumer confidence in buying the yellow metal. In addition to selling their products, over 307 gold and jewellery stores also took part in a gold promotion during DSF, where one kilo of gold was given away in a daily prize draw. This year was the 13th time the DSF has been held. Between its inception in 1996 and the 2006-07 show, the event has attracted more than 28 million visitors, who together have spent over 54 billion dirhams.
