Solid gold phone rings up world record saleTuesday, 1st April 2008 (958 views) A mobile phone made with 18ct white gold and featuring approximately 1,800 diamonds has been declared the world's most expensive cell phone after selling at auction for $1.2 million (£607,633).The phone, which was bought by a Russian businessman for his wife at a luxury goods auction last September, topped a new list of the world's priciest mobiles from international certification body the World Records Academy. The opulent mobile, called Le Million, was designed by Geneva-based luxury phone designer GoldVish. It is one of a range of high-end, luxury models offered by the Swiss firm, which offers phones in solid, 18ct white, rose or yellow gold. All of GoldVish's phones include a camera, mp3 player, world FM radio, email and SMS messaging, and a 2Gb memory for storing music, pictures and movies. Le Million topped the world record list ahead of the Signature Cobra phone from luxury handset manufacturer Vertu and French jewellery house Boucheron. The $310,000 phone features an 18ct rose gold case encrusted with diamonds, emeralds and rubies.
