Gold rings for Singapore's favourite Valentine couples

Friday, 15th February 2008 (2518 views)

A pair of white gold rings valued at between S$700 (£252) and S$800 were among the prizes given to five couples as part of a Valentine's celebration in Singapore, reports say.

The Electric New Paper said the rings, which were donated by designer SK Jewellery, were given to the winning couples as part of a package that also included a make-over, shopping vouchers, flowers, dinner and movie tickets.

Among the couples who took away the prizes were newly-weds Cattie and Lucas Ang - who are both signallers from the army - as well as Raja Shagaran and his wife Lorraine, who have been married for 20 years. They were chosen along with three other couples from over 200 entries.

Commenting on the gold rings, Mrs Raja Shagran told the website: "'It was like deja-vu. It brought back memories of us choosing our wedding rings. Besides, white gold is so in."

After their make-over and shopping sprees, the couples became the first to sample a new, five-course Valentine's Day Feast of Love dinner.

They also received passes to the new Hollywood film Fool's Gold.

Elsewhere, Valentine's Day spending in the UK was expected to reach £1 billion this year, according to figures from Alliance & Leicester.
